When it first premiered, Angels in America won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, seven Tony Awards, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, and the Evening Standard Award for Best New Play. Angels in America is pretty much the play on Reagan-era America. The AIDS epidemic was a major issue during this era, and much paranoia and misinformation surrounded the rise of the disease. Angels in America represents an act of resistance and asks its viewer whether change is Sure, there are others, but few are as wide in scope. It ensures that the devastation suffered by communities vulnerable to AIDS is not censored nor forgotten.
