Eagle Rare, while not the flavor bomb it used to be, is still a good sip. I checked last night, and I've got several that are 80-90% full (and some of which I don't envision reaching for - at least not on purpose). If you haven't tried buffalo trace or Evan williams single barrel, they're both rather inexpensive and really good. Makers Mark, Knob Creek, Gentleman Jack, or???? I would go with a medium bodied cigar with less pronounced pepper flavors. It’s aged in new oak barrels in historic old warehouses. I have read many reviews, and have narrowed it down to these three. They make phenomenal products which include their namesake Buffalo Trace Bourbon, the entire Van Winkle line, the famed Buffalo Trace Antique Collection and the Weller bourbons, to name a […] The others are Booker’s, Baker’s and Basil Hayden (which a longer aged Old Grand-Dad) and I’ll getting tackling them soon enough. Knob Creek vs Knob Creek 9 I'm trying to work out the difference between these two. Knob Creek is one of the 4 premium bourbons put out by Jim Beam. Knob Creek is part of Jim Beam’s small batch series. IMHO bourbons from Buffalo Trace generally tend to be very fruity - in part by subtraction, because the nutty/spicy notes you find in Beam & WT products aren't there, nor the more honeyed character I tend to get in HH products, or the various other notes which show up in products from other producers. Buffalo Trace over Knob Creek if you are just starting out. How about Buffalo Trace? The Knob Creek is 100 proof. If you want something similar to makers you can try one of the wellers. THAT is exactly my challenge! The calendar has turned to September, which can only mean one thing in the bourbon world – hunting season is upon us. In terms of flavor, Knob Creek is obviously a little on the yeasty side, as are most Jim Beam products, but has a heavier barrel profile, which is more akin to Heaven Hill. Yo everyone, I've been into bourbon for a while now but I'm still feeling out the flavors I like and I've still got a long, long list of drinks to try. In celebration of National Bourbon Heritage Month, I thought I'd make a list of some bourbons that I enjoy that have great flavor but won't break your bank. Each of the bourbons listed below come in a 750ml bottle for under $30. The advertised tasting notes seem the same, the price is basically the same, and the abv is the same. Makers Mark is a good place to start as the finish is a little sweeter. Running out of my 1792, and wanted to buy a 750mL of a bourbon i havent tried yet. I would also recommend Angels Envy. Elijah Craig 12 is a low rye mash bill but for me the spiciness of rye dominates this whiskey, not sure why. Even with different branding, the two are actually quite similar at their core. I had heard great things about the 15 year Knob Creek bottlings and was always on the lookout when I went out searching. Not too long ago famed whiskey expert Jim Murray called Buffalo Trace the best distillery in the world and it’s kind of hard to argue with that.
